Self-taught potty training???

I am certain that my child is a genius.  Every mom thinks her child is a genius, right?  Well, my child has decided to potty train himself…at NIGHT no less!

This was how Joe and I found him sleeping last night when we went to check on him about 10 o’clock last night…  (Please note the sarcasm in the beginning of this blog and know that this hilarious moment was brought to you AFTER we changed wet sheets and a pee-soaked child in the middle of his “good night’s sleep.”)

It’s been a while…

I am teaching summer school for the next 3 weeks to 8th graders who failed the math portion of the CRCT.  There are a number of issues that complicate this task…

  1. I teach Language Arts.
  2. I haven’t taken a math class since my freshman year of college…Statistics…and I got a C.
  3. I haven’t taken Algebra since 8th grade.

Don’t get me wrong.  I like math.  I always liked math (minus Geometry w/ Mrs. Cumming).  However, doing and enjoying math is completely different from teaching math.  I’m enjoying myself, but if my kids’ test scores don’t improve…let’s just say I’ll know why.

A few words of wisdom…

Filed under: Ongoing posts — by charliesmama1228 @ 1:57 pm

I discover lots of little life “lessons” all the time, so I thought maybe I’d keep a list…because unfortunately, I tend to forget these little discoveries just as quickly.

  1. Family is the greatest reward in life.
  2. Good friends run a close second.

Ok…so maybe I have a short list at the moment, but I didn’t get much sleep last night.  I’m a little tired…

Alisha needs…

Filed under: Daily Updates — by charliesmama1228 @ 2:41 pm

I got this idea from Rachel…can’t take the credit!

I googled “Alisha needs” and this is what I got.

Apparently, I need…

  1. help.
  2. a new nickname.
  3. to know.
  4. prayers.
  5. stitches…(um, ow…)
  6. to sign the papers (that sounds kind of scary…)
  7. sinus surgery… (again, ow…)
  8. to be recognized and appreciated…(AMEN!)

A new first!

Filed under: Daily Updates — by charliesmama1228 @ 1:42 pm

On Saturday, Charlie fed himself with a spoon for the first time.  I realize he’s a little old to just now be starting with utensils, but he hasn’t been interested.  And, given the mess that usually ensues, I haven’t pushed the issue.  Well… here’s what happened…

A full moon, perhaps?

Filed under: Daily Updates — by charliesmama1228 @ 5:58 pm

I woke up this morning and wanted to CLEAN!  This is very, very strange.  I actually scrubbed my kitchen cabinets.  The urge has since passed, however, and I am back to my normal, lazy self.  Maybe inspiration will strike again soon…Lord knows there are plenty of other rooms in my house that need help!

So very pitiful…

Filed under: Daily Updates — by charliesmama1228 @ 6:06 pm

There are few things as pitiful as a sick child, especially when it’s your own child.

Charlie started to run a fever yesterday and just wasn’t quite himself.  He woke up this morning with a 101 fever (although in actuality it was probably closer to 102+ since I used an ear thermometer).  Joe took him to the dr. and found out he has a slight ear infection in one ear and probably in the other (although the dr. couldn’t see b/c it was too full of wax…Charlie’s kind of a waxy boy…).  At any rate, he has medicine now and will hopefully feel better soon.

It’s heartbreaking to see your child suffer, even from something as minor as an ear ache.  As a parent, all you want to do is make it better…and sometimes you can’t.

My “100″

Filed under: Ongoing posts — by charliesmama1228 @ 5:44 pm

I saw this on a couple of other blogs.  It’s totally right up my alley!  It’s a list of 100 things about me.

  7. I love to read…seriously…I’ll read the label of a shampoo bottle while I’m on the “potty” or the back of a box of cereal if it’s sitting on the table.  I don’t care.  I just want to read something.
  8. Apparently I like “quotation marks.”
  9. I can’t stand to be wrong…and most of the time, I’m not.
